Even though this is an "Essentials" version of the server OS, you can still get somewhat lost in configuration if you aren't sure what you're doing. Fortunately, we only needed this to be minimally configured to satisfy some software requirements in our small business.

I will probably never endorse a MS product in my entire life, but sometimes it's the only flavor the needed software comes in, so we accept that fact and do the best we can. We had downloaded the trial version a few months ago for free and the trial period was about to expire. No problem entering the code that came with the software and did not have to reinstall the software on the server. Just entered the code and we were good to go. OK I didn't know this before I bought it but this license is actually enough for 1 physical and 2 virtual environments, so over this license covers 3 installs.

And the enforcement method is the honor system on that they are installed on virtuals. The OS is great, turns out we couldn't use it for our intended application. That is not a reflection on this OS. The vendor of the application we wanted to use with this gave us inaccurate compatibility information. Perfect for our needs! It does not include Exchange server like and SBS which was fine for what it was intended for.

Works perfect for Windows 7, 8, 8. This is an OEM install disk. I installed it on an HP Proliant Me and it works perfectly. Happy with Essentials! It's not such a pain like SBS to install and configure. Can't upgrade to R2 for some unknown reason. Same family of Essentials but won't download the R2 components or allow an in-place upgrade.

This is an excellent upgrade or replacement for any small business or home office server. Good value. I ordered this, thinking it was an OEM installation disk. Nope - it's just a key card with a link to download the ISO of an evaluation copy. I sure hope that works OK, or I'll be returning it. At least it's Amazon, and I suppose that returns are easy, but I still feel cheated. Nowhere in the description do I see that it's "key card only. Since Windows Home Server is not being upgraded, I decided to take the plunge with WSE even though it costs significantly more I wanted the ability to backup and restore UEFI based computers which WHS cannot it backs it up without warning, just get an error restoring it.

Installed smoothly on a Dell T as a clean install replacing Windows Server R2, without requiring any additional drivers during installation.
